Sikh free food van australia

MELBOURNE – An orange and navy blue truck seen plying on the streets of Melbourne has emerged as a source of free vegetarian food for everyone.

Started by Khalsa Foundation Australia, takes its inspiration from the popular ‘langar’ (community kitchens). Sporting a message saying, ‘Guru Nanak’s Langar, No more hunger’, the truck plies on the road distributing free hot meals to all.

The truck has an in-built kitchen and a window from where meals are served. The group served more than 300 meals during their launching service held at teh corner of Flinders St & Swanston St. For time being, the truck will be serving every Sunday at this location from 5pm to 6pm.

Speaking about the menu it offers, the team behind the truck said that the truck though serves pure vegetarian meal but its not just Indian or Punjabi food. “Since people we are serving are mostly Australian, we have to go by their taste. We will have various sort of vegetarian cuisines to be served in future”.
